Jo Oakley’s work celebrates her love of the precious objects she has long collected and the seascape where she lives in East Kent.
The various objects chosen are clearly loved, imbued with significance and when placed in the seascape create a narrative that quiets our noisy world.
The nature that enchants her is evident and she brings glimpses of this to the surface she is working on. Gesso is used first to shape the composition and bring texture without the distraction of colour.
The paint is applied in layers sometime scratching into or scraping away and this subtle technique is a reflection of the memory itself.
