The Wagtail in Broadstairs

I’m a bit late writing this month but have been distracted. The full moon last week wreaked havoc with my sleep and I felt depleted physically and over stimulated mentally. Spring is coming and the light mornings are full of bird song which helps my heart. The space for painting has been made and I have had a flurry of activity.

I had the offer of some extra space in the gallery in The New Kent Art Gallery in Broadstairs so was keen to make some work for it. Viking Bay in Broadstairs has a warm space in my family memories and there are many ghosts there which have influenced the love I have for it.

The images that are coming are little vignettes of memory - a window, the pieces chosen, my Nan’s kitchen, this is where my paintings started and now I’m rediscovering this theme.

The wagtail is such a familiar motif that symbolises a lightness and joy of life a reflection of where I am.

Having the opportunity to be part of the New Kent Art Gallery has made me revisit these memories and relationships recently. I visited with my daughter and grandson, and we had such a happy morning there, and I have decided in the coming warmer months I’m going to have some early mornings there to develop this work and delve a bit deeper. I’m going to swim, sit and write and see what develops.
